A Bit of History for this Location

Some background on this facility: When I stayed there in 2005 it was a Vietnam government facility for Party and provincial meetings & occasions. With the right connections you could stay here economically enjoying full government staff attention as long as there were no state meetings scheduled. It was clean & guarded by mostly young & very relaxed VN army soldiers. Even then, you were somewhat on-your-own & could feel rather lonely on, for Hanoi, sprawling grounds right on Ho Tay (West Lake). It is not conveniently located but, once there, it's one of the nicest locations on the big lake. In 2005, the French influence could still be felt, as well as the more austere communist influence. But it was clean, air-conditioned, incredibly quiet for anywhere in Hanoi, and a nice place to stay, especially if you had access to a motorbike. If what was then known as Ho Tay Villas has since been taken-over by private or quasi-private interests, there's no telling how things are. It was close to needing renovation & remodeling in 2005. At that time, a woman lived in each of the Villas to attend to guests needs, including laundry. So, while not western, it was clean - and a fun very local place to stay given its importance at the time. The beds were a queen sized pedestal type with the hardest foam you can imagine - but strangely comfortable. And a neat kinda romantic luxurious mosquito net would swing-out from a box over the head of the bed. The Villas are close to a very nice upscale ambassadorial residential district, but definitely off the beaten path. By now (2018), you'd want to take a look before checking-in probably. Maybe book somewhere else for a day, or two, and then decide. It was good, enjoyable, & photogenic to have stayed there then and, with the right ownership, it could become a Hanoi ultra 5-Star location with spacious rooms & balconies. It seems that probably hasn't happened - and may not.

Absolutely horrendous dirty sheets, seaman stains on pillows,cockroaches and fly infested, no mosquito nets even tho all the windows were left open by the staff, shower is dirty, when the cleaning lady came in the morning the only things she had to clean was new towels
